We found some tasty non-caffeinated beverages you can enjoy. Try hot apple cider, peppermint herbal tea, chamomile herbal tea with an orange slice, cranberry mocktails, and more. Just watch out for anything that has coffee or chocolate because they are the biggest caffeine culprits. Tips on how to write a book

November 19th, 2020

Everyone has a story to share. Writing a book is an incredible way to share one story or many stories. They can be from your own life or complete fiction. Here are some tips to get you started on your writing journey.

CHOOSE A SUBJECT MATTER THAT MATTERS TO YOU: When you have a passionate interest in the subject you’re writing about, it reveals itself and creates compelling reading! So whatever subject you want to write about for your book, make sure it’s one that truly resonates with you.

RESEARCH YOUR SUBJECT: Now’s the time to dive deep into your subject. Thank goodness for the internet. There’s so much information and it’s just a click away. This is one of the most rewarding parts of writing. Once you start, you’ll continue to learn more about your subject and it’s very meaningful.

TALK WITH OTHER AUTHORS: Gather more information from colleagues from writing groups or literary sites on how they started to write their books. Everyone has their own process. It’s good to find out how others have started their books so you can pick and choose what will work for you.

BUY A BOOK ON HOW TO WRITE A BOOK: Search Amazon or wherever you buy books on a book that walks you through the process. There are a ton of books out there to help you. Plus, you can see the reviews if these books were helpful or not so much.
CREATE AN INITIAL OUTLINE FOR YOUR BOOK: This initial outline may get changed a hundred times but do it anyway. It will be helpful to stay focused on the beginning, middle, and end of your book. That way, your book will have a flow that makes sense to you and most importantly, your readers.

FOCUS ON WRITING THE BOOK, NOT PUBLISHING THE BOOK: Publishing is an entirely different thing. The main work is writing the book. Put aside any questions or concerns you may have about publishing and marketing. That can wait. Don’t worry if you are writing the book with pen and paper or on the computer or other smart device. Just get to writing.

WRITE EVERY DAY EVEN IF IT’S FOR ONLY 15 MINUTES: You would be surprised how much writing you get done when you get into a routine. It’s amazing how you can accomplish when you do a little bit of writing every day.

November 16th, 2020

Thanksgiving takes on a deeper meaning this year. While this year is certainly different with its unique challenges, there are many ways to still express gratitude and pay it forward. We found some local organizations in need of monetary donations for Thanksgiving. It’s fast, easy, and maintains social distancing. Every donation will go a long way to help those in need feel less alone and more loved. North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry, The Midnight Mission Los Angeles, and LA Family Housing are just a few local organizations that would be incredibly grateful for a donation in any amount. Another way to help locally all year round is to order take out/delivery food from local North Hollywood restaurants. It’s been an especially tough year for them as well. We can lift their spirits by ordering tasty food from them. They feel good and you’ll feel good too.

Pampering skin tips for cooler weather

November 6th, 2020

We love the crisp Fall weather. But it can do a number on your skin. Winds and low humidity can lead to some very dry skin. But we’ve got your back. Here are some tips to help you stay supple and smoother during this time of year. Plus, it’s always a good thing to do some pampering and self-care.

MOISTURIZING: Try using a moisturizer in the morning and before you go to bed. Use a simple moisturizer that fewer and more natural ingredients to pamper your face and neck. It’s a simple thing but really works wonders. Your skin gets thirsty in these drier months.

DRINK LOTS OF WATER: Drinking more water will help release toxins and reveal a more glowing skin tone. Plus, it’s a simple way to improve overall health and has zero calories. Drinking 8 glasses of water per day is recommended.

HAND LOTION IS A MUST FOR THE NEW NORMAL: While washing our hands and using hand sanitizer frequently is the new normal, skin can get dried out quickly with all of these new preventative measures. So, it’s important to use hand lotion daily to maintain softness in our hands. Just keep a bottle of lotion by your bathroom sink and kitchen sink and that will make it super easy to get in a routine of using lotion as well.

LIP BALM: Lips often get cracked or dried out in cooler Fall weather. A little dab of Vaseline, Shea Butter, or Chapstick can help restore moisture. They help seal in the moisture from elements like the wind. Make sure to check with your health care provider to ensure you are not allergic to any of the ingredients in any lip balms you’re thinking about trying or buying.

“Film Noir” is a stylish and artistic movie genre based upon suspenseful stories, detective stories, crime dramas, and tragic romances (and many times, all of the above.) They were made between the mid-1940s to the mid-1950s. These timeless films are known for high contrast lighting, acting, gorgeous art direction, and stunning cinematography. They started off in tradtional black and white versions and have grown into sumptuous color versions. Classic film noir films include The Big Sleep with Bogie & Bacall, Double Indemnity, Mildred Pierce with Joan Crawford, In a Lonely Place, The Postman Always Rings Twice, Notorious, Gilda, The Maltese Falcon, and more. Modern-day noir-influenced productions include the comedy Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid, the sci-fi classic Blade Runner, L.A. Confidential (based on the book by acclaimed crime writer James Ellroy), and the reimagined Perry Mason on HBO. Happy viewing!
